Welcome to Balðrsfolk
For a long time, readers of Wyrd & Flame had been asking us to create a dedicated Norse Pagan community - somewhere people could go beyond simply reading our work and actually meet others, ask questions, exchange knowledge, discuss their practices and become part of a community. After countless requests, we decided it was finally time to build that space. And so, Balðrsfolk was created.
Balðrsfolk is the official Wyrd & Flame Norse Pagan community, open to anyone with an interest in Norse Paganism, Germanic traditions, mythology, history and the cultures of the pre-Christian North. Whether you're completely new and trying to understand where to begin, have been practising for decades, or simply have an academic interest in the subject, you are welcome. There are no expectations that you already know everything - learning is one of the reasons we're here.
Unlike Wyrd & Flame itself, Balðrsfolk isn't simply somewhere to read articles and move on. It is an active community hosted on Facebook, with both a dedicated Facebook group and an active community chat where members can talk directly with one another throughout the day. Members can ask questions, share research, discuss historical sources and modern practice, exchange experiences, join conversations, have a laugh and actually get to know the people behind the profile pictures. We also hold community activities, educational discussions, learning sessions and blóts, giving members opportunities to participate rather than simply observe.
Education remains at the heart of Balðrsfolk. We encourage people to question information, explore the surviving evidence and recognise the difference between what historical sources can tell us and what belongs to modern reconstruction or personal practice. At the same time, we recognise that a community cannot survive on research alone. Fellowship matters too. Balðrsfolk was created to bring people together, allowing friendships and a genuine sense of community to develop alongside learning.
Above all, we want Balðrsfolk to be somewhere people actually join in. It isn't another Facebook group filled with thousands of silent accounts, endless memes and arguments. It's a living community built around knowledge, respect, participation and fellowship - a place to learn from one another, contribute what you know, ask what you don't, and grow alongside others walking similar paths.

About Balðrsfolk
Balðrsfolk is the official Wyrd & Flame Norse Pagan community - a welcoming community that brings together people from around the world who share an interest in Norse Paganism, Germanic history, mythology, spirituality, and the traditions of the ancient North.
Founded on 5th June 2026, Balðrsfolk was created with one simple purpose: to ensure that nobody has to walk their path alone.
Whether you are a practising Norse Pagan, someone exploring Heathenry for the first time, or simply fascinated by Viking Age history and Old Norse culture, Balðrsfolk offers a place where you can learn, ask questions, share experiences, and become part of a supportive international community.

Our role is never to tell people what they must believe. Instead, we offer guidance, support, and one-to-one conversations for those seeking help with their own spiritual journey.
Whether someone wishes to discuss offerings, blóts, ancestor work, developing a personal practice, navigating difficult experiences, or simply wants someone to talk to, our Spiritual Team is there to listen and help where we can.
Every person's relationship with the gods and spirits is unique, and we respect that individuality.
A Place to Belong
Balðrsfolk is about far more than education.
It is about community.
We regularly hold group video chats where members can relax, get to know one another, share stories, laugh together, and build genuine friendships with fellow Norse pagans from across the world.
Many people arrive knowing nobody. They soon discover they are surrounded by people willing to support, encourage, and walk beside them.
You do not need to be a Norse Pagan to join Balðrsfolk.
Many of our members are historians, archaeologists, students, writers, enthusiasts, or simply people who enjoy learning about Norse mythology and the Viking Age.
Others come seeking a spiritual home.
Everyone is welcome, provided they treat others with respect.
There are no initiation ceremonies, membership fees, ranks to earn, or obligations to remain part of the community. You are free to stay for as long as Balðrsfolk brings value to your life, and if your path takes you elsewhere, you are free to leave with our respect and best wishes.
A Gathering Place for All
One of the core ideas behind Balðrsfolk is unity.
For too long, the modern Norse pagan community has often found itself divided between kindreds, clans, tribes, organisations, and independent practitioners. While each community has its own traditions, customs, and ways of practising, we believe there should also be a place where everyone can come together as one wider community.
Balðrsfolk was created to be that place.
Think of it as a modern gathering ground - an open meeting place where people from every background within the Norse pagan world can meet in peace. Whether you belong to a kindred, clan, tribe, hearth, organisation, or walk your path alone, you are welcome here. There is no expectation that you leave your own community behind, change your beliefs, or place Balðrsfolk above your existing commitments.
We are not here to replace anyone's kindred or organisation.
We are here to complement them.
Our hope is that Balðrsfolk can become a place where friendships are made across communities, knowledge is freely shared, and the wider Norse pagan world becomes stronger through cooperation rather than division. Members are encouraged to learn from one another, support one another, and celebrate both the diversity and shared heritage of the traditions we follow.
In many ways, we hope Balðrsfolk can serve as a modern equivalent of the great gathering places of the past - not by recreating them exactly, but by embracing the same spirit of fellowship, hospitality, learning, and exchange. A place where people from many paths can meet around the same metaphorical hearth, speak openly, honour one another, and return home carrying new friendships and new understanding.
Our community has no exclusivity, no obligation, and no expectation of allegiance. We simply ask that everyone who joins does so with respect, an open mind, and a willingness to contribute positively to the community we are building together.
Whether you stand with a kindred of hundreds, belong to a small local hearth, or practise entirely on your own, there will always be a place for you around the Balðrsfolk hearth.

Balðrsfolk was founded on the belief that a strong community is built not upon titles, authority, or exclusivity, but upon the people who gather around its hearth. Every decision we make, every lesson we teach, and every conversation we encourage is guided by a simple set of values.
We stand for:
Knowledge over dogma – We encourage evidence-based learning, curiosity, and the continual pursuit of understanding rather than unquestioning acceptance.
Learning over ego - No one knows everything. We all remain students of the old ways, always willing to listen, question, and grow.
Community over status - A person's worth is not measured by titles or rank, but by the respect, kindness, and wisdom they bring to others.
Respect over division - We believe Norse pagans are stronger when we support one another rather than compete with one another.
Growth over stagnation - Learning never truly ends. Whether you're taking your first steps or have walked this path for decades, there is always more to discover.
Fellowship over isolation - The old ways were lived in communities, not in solitude. We believe everyone deserves a place where they feel welcome.
Understanding over judgement - Questions should be met with patience, honest discussion, and encouragement.. not ridicule or exclusion.
We welcome respectful debate, thoughtful discussion, and different perspectives. History is continually expanding through new discoveries, and spirituality is deeply personal. We believe both deserve to be explored with open minds, humility, and mutual respect.
Meet the Team
Balðrsfolk was founded by four individuals who shared a common goal: to create an open, welcoming, and educational Norse pagan community where people from all backgrounds could come together to learn, grow, and support one another.
Rather than building another isolated group, they envisioned a modern gathering place - one founded upon frith, knowledge, fellowship, and mutual respect. A place where history and spirituality could be explored together, where newcomers would be welcomed rather than judged, and where experienced practitioners could freely share their wisdom with others.
Each founder brings their own unique knowledge, experience, and perspective to the community, working together to guide Balðrsfolk while remaining committed to the belief that leadership is measured through service rather than status.
Together, they continue to oversee the growth of Balðrsfolk, helping shape its future while ensuring it remains true to the values upon which it was founded.
Behind every strong community is a team of people dedicated to helping it thrive. At Balðrsfolk, our administration team exists for one purpose: to serve and support the community. Our roles are not about status or authority, but about helping members, sharing knowledge, keeping our spaces welcoming, and ensuring everyone has the opportunity to learn, participate and grow.
Together, our team brings a wide range of skills, knowledge and experience to Balðrsfolk, from historical research and education to community guidance, moderation, event organisation and member support. We work collaboratively to welcome new members, moderate our community spaces, host educational lessons and discussions, organise blóts, honourings and seasonal events, answer questions, share resources and provide support whenever it is needed.
We believe that leadership should be measured through service rather than power. Every member of our administration team has a voice, and we work together to uphold the values upon which Balðrsfolk was founded: frith, knowledge, fellowship and mutual respect. Decisions are made with the wellbeing of the wider community in mind, and our responsibility is to help create an environment where people feel comfortable contributing, asking questions and becoming an active part of Balðrsfolk.
Above all, we are members of Balðrsfolk too. We continue to research, learn and grow alongside everyone else, and none of us claims to have every answer. Whether you need guidance, have a question, want help finding information, have a concern about the community, or simply want someone to talk to, our team is here for you. Is Balðrsfolk only online?
Our main community is currently online, allowing people from around the world to learn together - Baldrsfolk is an international community with many people across every corner of the world!
Local gatherings and in-person events do take place when avalible, so we are not strictly based online.
Do I need to be a Norse Pagan to join?
No. Balðrsfolk welcomes anyone with a genuine interest in Norse Paganism, Norse history, mythology and the old ways. Whether you are simply curious or have followed this path for years, you are welcome here.
Are your teachings historically based?
Our educational material is rooted in surviving historical sources such as the Poetic Edda, Prose Edda, Icelandic Sagas, archaeological evidence and linguistic research.
We only teach historic reconstructionist Norse paganism but we do show the comparisons, we also acknowledge where modern interpretation begins and encourage respectful discussion.

Is Balðrsfolk free to join?
Yes. Our community is completely free to join and participate in. Some optional member benefits are available like merchandise, but all proceeds are put back in to the community through events, charity, competitions and help for low income households.
Do I have to follow one particular tradition?
No. Balðrsfolk welcomes people from many different Pagan paths, traditions and faiths. While our teachings and purpose is focused only on Norse paganism, members are free to respectfully hold different personal beliefs and practices.
Do you allow members from other kindreds, clans or communities?
Yes. We believe communities grow stronger through cooperation rather than division. Members of other kindreds, groups and organisations are welcome, provided they respect our community guidelines.
Baldrsfolk was created to be like Uppsala, a place for all community’s to gather without restriction or obligation. A place were friends could reconnect again and our focus in teaching as our faith ask could be upheld.
People from other community’s are welcome to join solo or if a community wishes.
Is Balðrsfolk a Folkish or Odinist organisation?
No. Balðrsfolk is not a Folkish organisation, nor are we affiliated with racist, white supremacist, neo-Nazi or other extremist movements that misuse Norse history, mythology or symbols to promote hatred or exclusion.
We welcome people of all ethnicities, nationalities, genders, sexual orientations and backgrounds who approach the community with respect and a genuine interest in learning.
Our focus is education, fellowship and the study and practice of Norse Paganism based on historical sources - not politics or division. We expect every member to treat others with dignity and respect, and discrimination or hate speech of any kind is not tolerated.
I'm completely new. Is that okay?
Absolutely. Everyone starts somewhere. Our community is built around education, so beginners are encouraged to ask questions, attend weekly learning sessions and learn at their own pace.

Is there a code of conduct?
Yes. We ask every member to treat others with respect, avoid unnecessary drama, remain open to learning and help create a welcoming environment for everyone.
